But an eye-opening piece by Johnny Phillips on his Substack, Football Unfiltered, has offered some clarity on where Wolves might be heading this summer.

Supporters got their first look at Domenico Teti, Wolves’ new Director of Professional Football, in the behind-the-scenes footage of Lopez’s arrival. According to Phillips, Teti’s role is to offer “a new layer of communication between the ownership and coaching staff,” and his appointment signals something more important: trust between Vitor Pereira and chairman Jeff Shi.

That trust appears to be at the heart of the changes unfolding behind the scenes. Teti has come in as Pereira’s choice, and the wider restructuring has been designed to give the head coach the space to build something lasting. Phillips describes the shift as a move away from instability and towards a setup where there’s a clear identity and shared responsibility. With new heads of recruitment and performance also named, it’s clear there’s now a group in place behind Pereira to help drive things forward.

Pereira himself has made it clear that he’s here for more than just survival. “I didn’t come to the Premier League to fight to avoid relegation,” he told Spanish outlet Marca. “I came here with the idea of building a strong, consistent project.”

He went on to say, “My goal is to create a competitive team that can compete against anyone, and both the club and I are looking for solutions. My ambition, and that of the fans, will be even higher next season.”

That ambition is encouraging, but there was also a note of caution. “We have a good, strong team, but I’m a little worried about the situation. We must bring in quality players because expectations are growing.” With the new financial year kicking in on July 1, the club’s next steps in the transfer market will show just how serious they are about backing that ambition.

Phillips also highlighted how Wolves are trying to move away from the kind of decision-making that left fans frustrated last season. The restructuring is designed to create a more productive, less ego-driven environment. Pereira has already shown signs of that, regularly deflecting praise to his staff and players rather than taking the credit himself.

It’s a shift in tone, but supporters have every right to carry reservations into the summer after the dealings of arguably every window since our maiden Premier League one in 2018.

Looking at the summer ahead, it’s apt to begin with the current rumoured or inevitable outgoings.

Outgoing: Nelson Semedo

Nelson Semedo has been a fantastic servant to Wolves and stepped up to the role of captain fantastically last term. However, today, June 30th, is the last day of his contract, and we are yet to hear anything from the club or anything concrete regarding where his potential future may lie.

Sercan Dikme’s reports in Turkey suggest that Besiktas are considering a move for the wing-back ahead of his contract expiry. This comes after links to Benfica, Marseille and others have all cooled in recent weeks. But what I think is the case for many is that we just want this to be over and done with now, so we can get planning.

Semedo has certainly played a vital role for Wolves in recent years, and his experience has been key. Still, clarity would be welcome. With his contract expiring today, we may finally get some form of communication from the club about the situation.

There’s a growing sense that Wolves are poised to enter a transitional phase, and clarity on leaders like Semedo could help define the tone of that transition. If he does move on, finding a replacement who can bring the same leadership and tactical intelligence will be critical, not just for defensive solidity, but for dressing room cohesion as well.

Outgoing: Tommy Doyle

Doyle’s departure has felt inevitable given his limited minutes under Vitor Pereira. He now looks set to make a move to fellow Midlanders, Birmingham City.

It’s fair to raise questions about the deal — a one-year loan with an obligation to buy for a reported £10 million. In a strategy very much akin to that of Wolves in recent years, Blues are taking a gamble with the loan and subsequent obligation. But for myself, I can’t help but feel Wolves could have got more out of this.

As of now, Doyle’s stock is the lowest it has been since he joined the club. However, we all know how supremely talented he is in the right environment. A good season out on loan in a side that is looking extremely ambitious following their return to the Championship, and his price could skyrocket. That’s why this could end up being a bargain for Birmingham, especially if they mount a serious promotion push.

There may be regret later. If Birmingham build their midfield around him and give him the regular football he’s lacked at Molineux, Doyle could very well remind us why he was so highly rated coming through City’s ranks. One to keep an eye on.

Incoming: Yunus Musah (AC Milan)

As always in the transfer window, it’s important to take all links with a pinch of salt as agents push their players into the shop window. However, reports from Gazzetta dello Sport’s Luca Bianchin have suggested that Wolves are one of the clubs interested in AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah, with Nottingham Forest also said to have an interest.

It is reported that the player could leave the Rossoneri for €20–25 million, which seems to be in the range of figures that Wolves are targeting this summer after the signing of Fer Lopez.

The 22-year-old American international is a fantastically versatile prospect. Capable of playing in the middle of the park, and as either a wing-back or further forward, Musah could potentially be the Semedo replacement, while also adding bodies to our midfield selection.

The American’s relentless engine, progressive carrying and athleticism could be a perfect fit for the high-intensity game that Vitor Pereira seems keen to implement. What’s more, Musah still has room to grow, which makes this a signing that could appeal both in footballing terms and as a resale prospect.

Incoming: Wallace Yan (Flamengo)

Brazilian outlet Geglobo has reported that Wolves are interested in Flamengo forward Wallace Yan, with the 20-year-old carrying a reported €40 million release clause.

The young Brazilian scored twice off the bench in two of Flamengo’s Club World Cup matches before their exit against Bundesliga champions Bayern last night.

Likely, Flamengo would not require the full release clause to sell the player, given his lack of first-team minutes. The Brazilian has only made three appearances in Série A this term, registering one assist. A versatile forward with bags of energy, he is still finding his feet, just as our very own João Gomes was at the same club.

There’s a clear precedent here. João Gomes came from Flamengo, adjusted well to the pace of the Premier League, and has arguably been one of Wolves’ more inspired signings in recent years. If Wallace is cut from a similar cloth, he could bring that same flair and energy, albeit in a more attacking role.

Other rumoured targets

As the window heats up, a few more names have emerged in the rumour mill — some potentially realistic, some more ambitious.

• Igor Julio (Brighton): Wolves have reportedly enquired the Brazilian centre-back, according to Diario Vasco. Leeds, Crystal Palace, and even Real Madrid are said to be interested, which could make this a tough battle. Julio is highly rated and had strong moments for Brighton last season but may be seeking a new challenge. Wolves’ pursuit suggests the club is not done reshaping its back line.

• Joeri Heerkens (Sparta Prague): A more long-term option, 19-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens is reportedly on Wolves’ radar after helping the Netherlands win the U19 Euros, as per Czech source Infotbal. He’s drawn interest from Ajax and Como as well but could fit Wolves’ recent trend of targeting emerging European talent. Whether he’d join as third-choice or be loaned out remains to be seen.

• Jeremy Toljan (Sassuolo): A more experienced candidate, right-back Jeremy Toljan is reportedly being considered by Wolves on a free transfer, as per German outlet FußballTransfers. The 30-year-old helped Sassuolo gain promotion last season and is now a free agent. With Semedo’s future in question, Toljan could be viewed as a short-term replacement to add depth and know-how.

As highlighted in Johnny Phillips’ piece, Wolves’ transfer business is expected to ramp up after July 1st. With Semedo’s future unresolved and reports pointing toward movement in the market, the coming weeks could be significant.

For myself personally, I am always one to judge the window when we see the team come out in the league for the first time, but this window is one that Wolves absolutely have to get right.
