It was gritty, golden football with character. And with the V-collar and sharp tailoring, you can almost picture those legends striding out in this modern interpretation.

However, a small yet poignant aspect of the design is the connection to the land beneath our feet every other Saturday, the former Molineux Pleasure Grounds.

Before it became a football stadium, the site was a public pleasure park on land purchased from the Molineux family. It featured ornamental terraces, a boating lake, croquet lawns, bowling, ice skating, and even a bandstand and fountain.

It was a place buzzing with community life. Galas, concerts, exhibitions, and cycle races drew crowds of up to 15,000, while a balloon ascent over the lake was a typical feature.

That same bit of land still brings people together now, and it’s a lovely, subtle nod from the club as to what came before, something we can argue we haven’t really seen with some of our lifeless templates used in recent years.

Of course, the players who wear it and the success that comes with it often define what a shirt can mean historically. But this one feels like one of those that will be remembered fondly, no matter what happens.

I must say, Wolves, fair play.

It’s that time of the year, as the season comes to a close and while we reflect on what has been a rollercoaster of emotions, the summer transfer window is rapidly approaching and Wolves are right in the thick of it.
